ZapSibNeftekhim is Russia’s biggest petrochemical facility with an aggregate capacity of 2.5 mtpa of basic polymers (polyethylene and polypropylene) located in the Tyumen Region (nearest city: Tobolsk).
Although the ZapSibNeftekhim production site neighbours the Alabaksky Natural and Historical Complex, a regional specially protected natural area, it is well distanced (by 20–30 km) from the most vulnerable plant communities of the terrestrial ecosystem. The part of the Alabaksky Complex that is closest to ZapSibNeftekhim (located ca. 2.5 km away from the facility) is a recreational area.

Zapsibtransgaz operates SIBUR’s gas transportation infrastructure in Western Siberia, covering over 2,700 km of gas product pipelines in the Yamal-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi autonomous areas and the Tyumen Region. It comprises the Nizhnevartovsk, Noyabrsk and Yuzhno-Balyksky operation centres, main pumping stations and railway racks.
A comprehensive project to preserve and restore forests that includes reforestation and environmental education initiatives for the Tyumen Region residents. It engages local communities, teachers, school children and employees of the Company.
Since 2019, the project volunteers have planted over 14,000 spruce and pine seedlings and restored 3 ha of forest in the Tobolsk forest facility. The initiative was supported by Tomsk activists, who planted 3,000 pines in forests around Tomsk in 2021. The campaigns attracted over 300 participants, including heads of SIBUR’s facilities, corporate volunteers, and school and forest facility activists. They received support from public forest authorities in the Tyumen and Tomsk regions.
In 2020, Tobolsk Forest won the award for the Best Corporate Forest Conservation Project in the Reliable Partner – Environment national contest organised by the Reliable Partner association jointly with the Russian Ecological Society.
Three forest walking routes totalling 4 km developed by SIBUR in collaboration with the Tobolsk Integrated Research Station of RAS (Urals). The routes lie in the forests 1.5 km away from Russia’s largest petrochemical facility, ZapSibNeftekhim.
EcoTrail walking tours provide an insight into the unique Siberian nature and serve as a proof that nature and industrial facilities can co-exist with no negative consequences.
An art project for environmental awareness raising. Skimen Studio designers transformed four fire and process water reservoirs at ZapSibNeftekhim into a unique art piece housing 96 pictures of local animal and plant species.
